Pristine white sand beaches interrupted by the crash of ocean waves breaking upon the shore. Elegant restaurants where name-dropping is a nightly occurrence. Posh dinner parties with an abundance of beluga caviar, lobster and king crab legs, and endless bottles of fine champagne. Outrageous beach house bashes lasting into early morning hours.
Such was life during the summer seasons in the Hamptons where thousands upon thousands of Wall Streeters and yuppie jetsetters fled the bustle of New York City to their little East End country paradise in 1980s hedonistic fashion as seen in period movies like Wall Street (1987), Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and even Weekend at Bernie’s — all which offered a glimpse of the 1980s Hamptonites’ summer lifestyle.
Locals, however, enjoyed a quieter pace and lifestyle – choosing to settle permanently into Long Island’s East End. One of those people included Jay Paul, who designed, built, decorated, and owned his French villa in Bridgehampton, NY. His delightful slice of paradise was even featured in the June 1982 edition of House in the Hamptons, “Ah, Bridgehampton: A country house that didn’t just happen,” by Mary Cummings and photographed by Davis A. Gaffga.
In an interesting twist, BRG is now offering the Estate Collection of Jay Paul which includes the contents of both his Bridgehampton home (with many of the same items featured in that magazine spread four decades ago), items from his NYC apartment, and select pieces he inherited from his uncle, Arthur Judson (some of you may recall that BRG liquidated the Estate of Arthur Judson several years ago). Arthur Judson, had no children and left his property to Jay and his sister. Jay's sister passed several years ago and Jay is the last of kin. He inherited what was left of the Arthur Judson estate. Some of that property is included in this sale.
This time-capsule estate collection features period MCM (mid century modern) furniture and decorative arts, an amazing collection of fine art and ethnographic elements, and an assortment of sterling silver. Other unique lots round out this truly fun and eclectic estate. Happy bidding!
