Black Rock Galleries of Apex is pleased to offer a wonderful assortment of important and historic multi-generational treasures from a prominent New England family with political and military ties spanning from the American Civil War and beyond.
A sampling of some of the many notable items in this sale include a Tiffany & Co. Civil War sword previously belonging to George Bryant Woods (1844-1871) from Barre, MA, who served in the 8th Massachusetts Battery as a journalist; Civil War epaulettes and a sash that belonged to George Bryant Woods, a pencil-written letter from President William McKinley (American, 1843-1901) to David G. Baillie expressing his gratitude; as well as Original World War II Battle Of El Alamein battle plans drawn up by renowned General Bernard Montgomery accompanied with a signed photo of him with journalist Hugh Baillie
Also included is a large assortment of antiquarian books, featuring a signed 1888 edition of "The Life of PT Barnum," Robert Armstrong's 1852 "Obituary Addresses Of The Hon. Henry Clay"; "The Triumphs Of Temper; A Poem" By William Hayley, 1782; "The Rainbow's Foot" By Julius W. Muller 1921, Signed; and many more!
Artwork includes works by Ethel Easton Paxson (American, 1885-1982); Meta Pluckebaum (German, 1876-1945); Alfred Bryant Copeland (American, 1840-1909) in addition to many other notable paintings and prints.
Other objects of note include various swords, militaria, sterling silver, an extensive 1930's-1940's Disney comic collection, historic ephemera in relation to the Mead, Hays, and Baillie families, and much more!
