BRG is pleased to offer this single owner sale that features a multi-generational Long Island estate property, which was carefully transported to NC. Many of the items available in this sale were collected by the owner’s grandfather; the world renowned appraiser and Madison Avenue NY gallery owner, Walter F. Altschul, along with a nice assortment also collected by his daughter. Now, it is the third generation's privilege to share this impressive collection to the bidding public, through BRG. This sale features a treasure trove of wonderful antiques and vintage decor that offers something to suit every style, taste, and budget. Happy bidding!
Altschul was forced to flee his successful glove manufacturing business in Prague due to the Nazi invasion in the 1930s. Emigrating through England and Boliva, he eventually settled in New York with his family. As a world traveler and long-time collector of fine art, Altschul acquired a substantial collection, as well as his appraiser certification. He worked as an appraiser for Parke Bernet, beyond its merger with Sotheby's. His NYC gallery collection included fine old master paintings, true Renaissance period antiques, antiquities, and more. Meanwhile, his daughter, who shared her father's enthusiasm for fine art and antiques, became an avid collector in her own right. Throughout the years, she added to the collection her father began, acquiring beautiful, quality pieces spanning differed periods and genres.
