William Trost Richards (November 14, 1833 – November 8, 1905) an American landscape artist who was associated with both the Hudson River School and the American Pre-Raphaelite movement. He spent the last years of his life in Rhode Island where he lived and worked.
He is especially noted for his views of the White Mountains that are almost photographic in their realism.
His works are featured today in many important American museums, including the National Gallery, the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum and other noted museums.
This realistic oil on board depicts a seascape with white capped breaking waves in green hues in the foreground, a beach lined coast in the background and set against a hazy grey sky.
