Item Description

Wilhelm Kage (1889-1961), the creative director of Gustavsberg company, designed the Argenta Series produced for the Gustavsberg Factory.
This fantastic bo works notably feature a distinctive green hued glaze over the ceramic body, further embellished with a wonderful silver finished decorative overlay technique.
This box is part of the "WASA 1628" series which were created following interest in a Swedish sailing vessel which had sunken in 1628 but was discovered and raised and restored in the later 20th Century.
This box displays the awe inspiring talent with which Wilhelm Gage is able to decorate ceramics with silver finished overlay. The top of the box depicts with intricate detail the WASA ship.
The box itself is marked underfoot "WASA 1628" to the center with a pink hued sticker marked "WASA / NAMNDEN". In the lower right corner of the underfoot of the box marked in gilt finish is written "GUSTAVSBERG / ARGENTA / Made in Sweden".

Condition: There is some tarnish to the silver overlaid decoration with slight wear to the silver overlay decoration which can be seen in lot images. Overall, the box is in good form and presents handsomely.
