Item Description

Antique American wooden shelf clock featuring an architectural case with a peaked pediment, turned side columns, and a molded base. The painted metal dial displays Roman numerals with decorative black hands, above a painted tablet depicting a pastoral landscape scene. The clock houses a brass eight-day movement labeled for the Waterbury Clock Company, Waterbury, Connecticut, visible from the reverse. The interior retains a period paper instruction label, and the backboard bears a retailer’s label reading “T. F. Barnes, Watches, Clocks and Diamonds, Federal Square Building, Grand Rapids, Michigan.” Also affixed to the back is a handwritten note referencing family history and a marriage dated 1875. Includes pendulum and winding key. A desirable example of late 19th-century American clockmaking with strong decorative appeal.

Condition

Fair antique condition. The clock is untested for timekeeping accuracy and operation, likely not operational. The wooden case exhibits surface wear, scratches, finish loss, and age-related patina throughout. The painted dial and tablet show wear, fading, and minor losses consistent with age. Interior paper labels show tearing, staining, and losses. Backboard shows nail holes, tape residue, and surface wear. Pendulum and key are present.
