Vladimir Lebedev (Russian, 1891-1967) oil painting on board depicting a landscape with several houses nestled into a grassy plane with telephone poles and wiring strung through the central midpoint of the painting. A road can be seen in the foreground. Although the painting has realist motif, reminders of the abstraction and endeavors into modernity remain. The painting has quick and short brushstrokes with varied layers of paint, appearing as though painted en plein air having hints of Impressionism.
The painting is apparently unsigned but bears an oval stamp on verso which reads: "ESTATE OF V.L. VLADIMIR LEBEDEV". Additionally a string tag affixed to the frame wire has the price paid $975, with the artist name and dates of birth and death as 1911-1989.

About the Artist:
Vladimir Lebedev was an important Russian avant-garde artist during the 20th century. Well known for his work as a painter in addition to his work as a political cartoonist. Lebedev was known to work in avant-garde styles including Futurism, Suprematism, and Cubism. He is also known for his extensive work on projects including children's literature illustration. The varied movements and modern stylistic movements his work endeavored into changed in the latter portion of his career when, due to state and political direction, Lebedev's work returned to more realist motifs.
