This is a vintage 1970s Charlie Brown "New Math" poster by Springbok Editions. The caption satirizes the "New Math" movement, an experimental and abstract method of teaching mathematics that swept through United States classrooms between the late 1950s and early 1970s.
A classic illustration of Charlie Brown sits facing the right side of the frame. He has an anxious, confused, or distressed facial expression, characterized by a wavy mouth and furrowed eyebrows. He is seated at a school desk, holding a blank white piece of paper in his hands as if reviewing a test or assignment. A speech bubble above his head reads: "HOW CAN YOU DO 'NEW MATH' PROBLEMS WITH AN 'OLD MATH' MIND? The distinct, vertical signature (in plate) of Peanuts creator Charles M.
