Item Description
Two signed 19th century documents relating to Connecticut history including a land deed signed by Col. Lemuel Storrs (1753-1816) of Middlesex County and his son, Congressman William Lucius Storrs (1795-1861). The Storrs family having founded Storrs, CT as well as the family that donated the land that the University of Connecticut (UCONN) has sat upon since it's founding in 1881. Also included is a 19th century Yale University diploma printed onto vellum and signed by a number of individuals in the lower right corner. Both pieces framed behind glass in simple stained wooden frames.
Expected signs of wear including toning to and creasing to paper/vellum, scratches to frames, foxing and sun fading to ink on diploma. UPDATED: Wax seal in upper-left corner of diploma missing as indicated in photography.
Diploma measures overall 11" h. x 14 1/2" w.; land deed 13 1/4" h. x 8 1/4" w.
