Item Description
The first chest with oriental polychrome decorations and mother of pearl figures,
The top with magnificent paintings of peonies, flowers, foliage and bird. The opens through two doors enriched with a traditional Japanese scene, depicting women in ancient ceremonial costumes. Beautifully painted landscapes in the background accompany them depicting mountains, rocks as well as trees and plants. This representation is surrounded by a band of geometric motifs.
In the lower part, a drawer, with a front decorated with illustrations in the same theme. The sides with beautifully colored flowers reminiscent of those of the top, bamboo motif on back and the inside doors with reeds.
Dimensions: 24" W, 12" D, 36 1/4" H
Condition: one spot of loss to top front edge.
The second lacquered chest with gold Chinoiserie design with flowers, geometric motifs, flowering trees and birds. The top decorated in the same manner. Opens to reveal removable shelf, metal tear drop pulls, decorated sides.
Dimensions: 24" W, 12" D and 36" H
Condition: old tape residue, minor wear.
