The first letter, "Preparing To Move Wherever Grant 'The Tycoon' May Order" is noted as a "War-date Union officer's letter...'In the field near Point of Rocks, Va.', June 20, 1864, in part:...'heard fighting for the past forty eight hours-constant skirmishing and that too on a very large scale. Our advance line is within a stones throw of Peterburgh-but the city is not ours yet. The rebs are in the last ditch, fighting for dear life. Every street in Petersburgh is fortified, every house and every tree top is filled with sharpshooters.' ...'The original stamped transmittal cover is included."
The second included document "Capt. Chamberlain 'Plays' His Wound To Get Home" is noted as being "War-date Union officer's letter,...'Camp 3rd N. Y. Cavalry, in the field Sep. 19, 1864, in part: "...I have been on picket for the past five days...the Johnnies paid Gen. Grant...an unwelcome visit one morning last week. They came down with some five thousand cavalry, charged on the 11th Pa. and 1st D. C. Cavalry who were doing picket duty on the left...drove them in...leaving two companies, with mine...cut off...my chance was good for Richmond...'The original stamped transmittal cover is included.'"
