Item Description

Jun Yao / ware glazed stoneware pottery has its earliest roots dating back China's Sung Dynasty (960 - 1279AD). Jun yao / ware is to this day one of China's most important kiln sites and was originally one of China's most important 5 kiln sites during the Song / Sung dynasty.
Known for sublime hues of purple colored splashes on sky blue hued glaze, often with a slight underglaze crackle pattern, has become incredibly collectible.
This lot includes a tripod, twin handled, Jun Yao glazed censer / incense burner and a lotus, petal form brush-washer coupe. Both with thickly applied, unctuous Jun glaze coating.
Dimensions: 2 1/4”H x 4 3/4”Diam.
While both scholarly objects in this lot are likely created later, more recently, and not of the period. They are fantastic examples of the types of wares the Jun Yao kiln produced during the height of China's illustrious Song / Sung Dynasty (960 - 1279 AD).

Condition:
- Brush washer: In good form with the light crackles being inherent to the Jun glaze. A small glaze loss to the exterior which is almost certainly from the firing process and absolutely does not diminish the overall beauty and form of the brush washer which presents exceptionally well overall.

- Censer: In good form with light underglaze crackles to the interior with a small smudge to the interior which is underneath the glaze and in fact along with the crackles lends depth to the otherwise monochrome glaze. The depth lends wonderful virtuosity and overall the item is fantastic. One can gaze at the thick, dreamy glaze as it stops just sho of the three feet tips which display the red earthen stoneware body. Presents fantastically overall.
