Collection of two antique 19th C. Oil on panel paintings including:
1. James Leakey (British, 1775-1886) Oil On Panel, "Portrait Of A Lady Of The Arundell Family"
An antique oil on panel painting depicting a portrait of Grace Arundell. The painting is appropriately titled, "Portrait of a Lady of the Arundell Family."
The female figure is portrayed in three quarter length, seen wearing an intricate white gown and seated beside a table which is set in front of a large window with a vision of the outdoors.
Inscribed on a music sheet J. Leakey.
Leakey was born "in Exeter 1775 and died in Exeter 1865. He was a painter of portraits, landscapes and miniatures...partiularly knon as a painter of miniatures in the style of the Dutch Masters and was called by Sir Thomas Lawrence as the "English Wouwermann."
James Leakey "exhibited twelve pictures at the Royal Academy of landscapes in the West Country, also portraits and figure subjects. Also painted a portrait of the engraver Samuel Cousins, which is in the National Portrait Gallery"
Presented within a carved and gilt finished frame.
Condition: Wear to the finish around the trim where the panel meets the frame. Nics and losses to the frame and the panel needs to be re secured as it has come loose in its frame. See lot images for further visual inspection as they are considered part of the lot condition report.

Label on verso denotes the sitter "Augustus Stoey of Kenbury Devon / Born 24/7/1800 Died 7/9/1870 / Bequeathede Estate mansin as well as the bulk of his great weath to the Rev. G.W. Bamlylde Daniell rector of Martin near Salisbury uphon whose Levis IV has entailed."
The painting handsomely depicts the sitter in formal attire, seated in a Neoclassical style chair in front of a window with view of a spectacular landscape. Wonderful red drapery can be seen behind the sitter whom is portraied with his hand in a book, while stairing intently to the right of the viewer.
Presented within an ornately carved and gilt finished frame.
Condition: Wear and losses to the frame with wear to the trim of the painting where it is affixed within the frame. The painting is loose in its frame and should be re mounted. Some fading to colors but overall in good form.
