Item Description

Japanese woodblock print by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, titled Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree, depicting a ghostly female figure drifting through falling cherry blossom petals. Rendered in Yoshitoshi’s refined late-19th-century style, the composition emphasizes delicate line work, soft tonal gradations, and an ethereal atmosphere associated with traditional Japanese folklore and poetry. The figure’s elaborate hairstyle and flowing robes contrast against the subdued background, creating a sense of quiet movement and emotional depth.
The print is presented in a later protective frame with matting and backing, with visible publisher and artist seals within the image. A label on the reverse attributes the work and provides historical context consistent with Yoshitoshi’s One Hundred Aspects of the Moon series aesthetic.

Condition

Print shows age-appropriate toning, scattered spots, and light wear consistent with age and handling. Colors remain visible with no major losses observed. Frame and backing show wear from storage and use. Not examined outside of frame.
