Item Description
Thomas Moran (American, 1837-1926) "Lake George" engraving depicting figures enjoying the landscape of the titled lake. Figures in the foreground and midground gather on gently rolling hills surrounded by lush trees and large rocks, along with a large building overlooking the calm lake. The lake is encircled by the hills, with a large, arching rainbow emerging from dark clouds overhead that adds an almost ethereal quality to the landscape.

About the Artist:
Thomas Moran was an American painter and printmaker of the Hudson River School, known for his richly detailed paintings of natural landscapes with a focus on color and light. He married Scottish born artist Mary Nimmo Moran and was a part of a family of artists, including his brothers and nephews. Moran originally worked at the wood-engraving firm Scattergood & Telfer, and later as the chief illustrator for the magazine Scribner's Monthly.
