Thomas Locker (American, 1937 - 2012) was an American landscape painter as well as award winning illustrator and author of Children's literature. Locker's oil paintings follow in the tradition of the 19th-century Hudson River School of painting displaying vast, lush, landscapes.
Born in New York City, Locker began training in traditional old-world techniques with painter Umberto Roberto Romano.
The current painting depicts an ominous landscape with a open field and winding dirt road with a figure, nearing a group of trees just off in the middle ground. There is a wonderfully lit sky, with reddish hues, likely the result of the dawn or evening sun behind a mass of clouds giving the sky a wonderful yet ominous hue.
The painting is signed "Locker" to the lower right corner.
The painting is presented in a gorgeously carved and painted gilt frame with fluted band seen running the circumference of the frame.

condition: There is a several long inch scratch that can be seen to the painted finish in the middle of the canvas around the are where the group of trees are. Even still, the painting presents well and the ominous and vastness of the landscape really work to draw the viewer's attention inward.
