"Les Blanchisseus" original stone lithograph, Ca. 1890
Published in Le Rire magazine, a page titled "Passe la mi-careme", translating to "past halfway, this pregnancy".
The satirical lithograph is after an original, depicting two laundress women carrying heavy baskets and bags of laundry.
The red haired woman says to the pregnant brunette girl, "Pas d'danger qu'a présent un étudiant vienne nous aider!" which roughly translates to "No danger of a student coming to help us now!"
Signed in plate, marked "Dessin de STEINLEN" lower right.
Presented mounted to linen.
