Teng-Hiok Chiu (Chinese-American, 1903-1972) was a Chinese Modern & Contemporary artist with a focus on painting.
Chiu was born in 1903 in Xiamen, Fujian Province. From a young age Chiu seized artistic opportunities. In 1920, Chiu began his studies abroad where he quickly became a known member within various European and American artistic groups. Of note, Chiu was the first known foreigner to have been granted membership of Royal Society of British Artists.
Chiu's style fantastically blended Eastern and Western artistic aesthetics. His use of color and perspective is unique. His works often bear resemblance to Chinese scroll paintings which are laid out in longer scrolls than is typical of Western artistic ideals. The idea that the artist takes the viewer on a journey, leading the viewers gaze throughout the landscape is one which Chiu masterfully accomplishes.
The current work features a fabulous polychrome painted landscape with mountainous terrain. Outlined segments making up the terrain and landscape.
