Item Description
An impressive antique secretary designed with elegantly restrained Louis-Philippe charm. The secretary is beautifully crafted with rich, warm-toned dark brown figured veneers, detailed with a straight crown and with bobbin trims surrounding a drop-down writing surface inlaid with dark brown felt within. The hutch is designed with striking birdseye maple for an excellent contrast in wood grain and hue, seen with tapered square columns over an upper cubby leading down to two small drawers.
The lower case sports a shapely long drawer with two spiral carved knobs, along with a double door cabinet below opening to a single shelf within. Raised over stout bracket feet, completing the design.
Condition
An impressive piece that presents well overall, with some minor wear commensurate with age and use. The drop down desk surface does not stop at level and likely needs some support. Chipping and lifting of veneers and the lower hinged doors. The stop piece is missing so the bottom drawers do not rest flush. Checking to the desk surface.
