Item Description
Stunning antique French empire style curio china cabinet, circa 1880 - 1920. The cabinet is in two sections, the lower of which stands on 4 carved and gilt wood feet. The lower cabinet with two doors, glass panes set into the wood framed doors, opens to reveal a large space fitted with one glass shelf. The back of the cabinet is mirrored to enhance the presentation of whatever you choose to store. The side walls, which also have glass panes inset, along with the front doors have an interior curtain for concealing the contents. The doors opened with a key with a wonderfully cast shell form handle. The frame of the lower cabinet is marvelously carved and gilt decorated, with a paw form foot below a tapered post with a caved and gilt wood figural bust of a classical Greek female bust. There is a drawer found at the upper section of the lower case which has a wonderful gilt brass key escutcheon along with gilt palms flanking the cabinet seen above the figural busts.
The upper cabinet has wonderful figural busts on tapered columns with carved and gilt feet below. The upper case with glass paned doors and side walls that open to reveal two glass paned shelves. With classical gilt brass mounted appliques depicting cherubs can be seen flanking the upper segment of the upper case with a wonderful moulded crown above and a pyramidal crown.

Condition: There are chips and losses to frame and finish throughout which can be seen in the lot images. The curio china cabinet does display signs of age and wear but can be refinished and overall the presentation is fantastic.
