Item Description
Bearing a Christies auction house sticker. The vase ca. 340-300 B.C.E., possibly Apulian. The main decoration of the head of a woman is the most common and characteristic motif of South Italian vase painting. After 340, the motif is used on large vessels as this one. Here the heads appear on both sides of the wine storage vessel.
The workshops of southern Italy (ca. 440-early 3rd c. BCE) in the Greek style of red figure share motifs used on mainland Greece.
