Sophie Strouvé (French, b. 1922) "Promenade en Barque" oil on canvas depicting an idyllic French landscape with body of water, featuring an arched bridge with weeping willow trees dropped below the bridge and nearly to the waterline, with figures including four pairs of figures and a single man in rowboat. The scene depicts one couple seated under a tree by the water's edge with two couples in rowboats, one with a parasol. The entire scene is meticulously painted and allows the viewers eye to roam in a continuous motion for viewing pleasure.
Signed and dated '64 lower right in green. Additionally signed and titled on verso to canvas.
The canvas is stamped Sennelier Paris on verso, issued from the maison where the canvas was likely purchased.
Displayed with a canvas liner and gilt fillet in a carved and gilt finished frame.

Sophie Strouvé is a French artist known for painting. She studied at the School of Applied Arts in Paris and exhibited locally throughout 1950's-1960's including at the exhibitions of naive painters, 1952. Strouvé's work is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
