Sir Robin Darwin (English, 1910-1974) Pair of watercolors on paper depicting landscapes in neutral earthy tones with a splash of blue. One depicts a mountainous landscape with a Buddhist temple on top with a bridge leading to it, with a view of a stream leading to mountains in the background. The latter shows a cityscape beside a mountainous landscape, and a harbor to the right with boats. Both in similar color palettes. Painted signature lower right, displayed beneath glass in matching brass frames.
Condition: In overall good condition with expected signs of age with some cosmetic wear to frames. Ready to hang.

Painter and principal of the Royal College of Art. Born in London, Darwin after Eton College and Cambridge University attended the Slade School of Fine Art. He exhibited at the RA and other main London galleries. After World War II service in the Ministry of Home Security, Darwin was in 1945–6 at the Council of Industrial Design.
The College assumed independent university status under his direction. He was knighted in 1964.
