Stay in a Connecticut Audubon member’s two bedroom jungle cottage in San Vito, Costa Rica. San Vito is perhaps best known as the home of the Las Cruces Biological Station and the Wilson Botanical Garden. The Wilson Botanical Gardens are also one of the best places to go bird watching in Costa Rica, and the facility attracts thousands of amateur ornithologists every year. The gardens feature extensive trails and paths that overlook the stunning scenery of La Amistad International Park, of which the Wilson Botanical Garden is a part.
The Wilson gardens are considered to be among the finest in Costa Rica, and it is home to some of the most exotic plant species in Latin America, including rare specimens in the aroid, bromeliad, cycad and maranta families. The facility is divided into themed areas, and unlike some other botanical gardens, every specimen and genus is clearly marked, providing visitors with a fascinating and educational experience.
The Cottage has two bedrooms with three single beds in total. There is also access to a swimming pool with spa and a yoga pavilion. The property includes 46 acres that border the 900 acre Organization for Tropical Studies, Las Cruces Research Station – www.tropicalstudies.org/las-cruces-research-station serving three meals a day. The town of San Vito with several good restaurants is a seven minute drive from the property as well. Please visit the San Vito Bird Club website, www.sanvitobirdclub.org, to learn more about the area!
The donor is happy to work with the winners to plan a trip. She has lead trips to San Vito before. She has also offered to answer any questions you might have during the bidding. Questions may be filtered through Matt Lahey at mmlahey@gmail.com.
