Item Description
Russian silver spoon. This incredible antique tablespoon is Russian, .88 silver, and has a fig form bowl which is decorated at the base with a shell motif, turquoise blue and white enamel. The back of the spoon is applied with a pale blue and green guilloche enamel, with a scalloped purple border. The handle is twirled with cobalt blue enamel, accented by alternating turquoise blue and white enamel bands, and ends with a on matted silver ground set with purple and cobalt enamels, and ending with the repeated pale blue and green shells.
"The Russian nobility was very fond of elaborate dinner parties and social get togethers. Spoons of this type were meant to impress the guests and to show the wealth and power of the party giver" and unfortunately, most were ultimately destroyed when the wealth of the nobility was seized by the Bolsheviks in 1917.
This spoon was made 1899-1908.

Condition: Surface scratches, wear commensurate with use and age. Chipped enamel, marred, nicks on handle. Please see photographs.
