Item Description

An informational tag on verso denotes the artist with biographical information. In summary, The print is by Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo whom was born in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1899. Tamayo lived in Mexico City with his aunt after the death of his parents early on in his life. In Mexico City, Tamayo worked with is Aunt in her fruit stall in the market quarter where he found one of his muses, fruit and became passionate about colors which would have been something he saw each day with various fruit in a variety of color.

Tamayo's first exhibition was held in Mexico in 1926 and illustrated the blended style which included elements of Mexican folk art, Cubism and other abstract stylistic choices. His art can be found in major institutions including the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, along with the Phillips collection and museums displaying modern art in both Paris along with New York.

The current work is a limited edition work, titled "Two Females" and was made circa 1969. The figural work depicts a female with green skin next to a second female with glasses and an off white ground with pink outline. The mottled pink and dark back ground allows the focus to be on the figures in the direct foreground.
Pencil signed out of plate lower right, numbered '150 / 150' to the lower left.
Presented matted and within a silver paint finished wood frame and glazed.
