Item Description

Richard Lytle (American, B. 1935) water color on paper, "Sanctuary Revisited".
Lytle was famously included in the “Sixteen Americans” exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1959. However, unlike many of his counterparts including Ellsworth Kelly and Frank Stella whom preferred to work in "hard-edged, Minimalist painting", Lytle drew inspiration in organic realism and the natural elements infused with vibrant colors throughout his career.
Lytle graduated from the celebrated "Cooper Union and Yale School of Art (where he remained a valued member of the faculty for four decades)".
Lytle began his career working an an assistant to Josef Albers where he learned basics including drawing and color instruction. "Mastery of color is a hallmark of Lytle’s work, whether in his detailed studies of flora in watercolor and pencil or in his fantastical botanical landscapes, so detailed that they begin to loop back into abstraction."
The fabulous work at hand is a water color on paper painting depicting an abstracted still life with fabulously colored blooming flowers using a vivid watercolor pallette.
Pencil signed, dated 1991 and titled on verso.
Presented matted and framed in a natural finished wood frame and glazed
Sight: 30"H x 2"H x 32"W

Condition: Good, with only light wear to the trim of the paper but the painting presents exceptionally well and is wall ready.
