Item Description
Ray Strong was born in Corvallis, Oregon in 1905. His passion is in painting out doors or 'plein air' work.
After some time at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco (now the San Francisco Fine Arts Institute), Strong moved New York where he continued his studies with Frank Vincent DuMond at the Art Students League. During the Depression, Strong painted murals for the WPA. Some of his paintings can be found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
This current painting depicts a vast landscape with field dotted with trees and mountain ranges in the far distance.
The voluminous sky overhead with rolling clouds appears to never end. The work presents very nicely and is signed and dated in the lower left, "Ray Strong 1957"

Condition: There is some and soiling to the mat and some areas of wear to the painted finish of the painting which would benefit from a cleaning.
