The set covers the sweep of Jewish history from the earliest biblical times through the 19th century. Volumes 1–5: The primary historical narrative written by Graetz. Volume 6 (Supplement): A "Modern Times" history by Max Raisin, covering late 19th and early 20th-century events not included in Graetz's original work.
