Pierre Duval Le Camus (French, 1790-1854) was a French artist with a focus on painting and lithography.
As an artist, Le Camus primarily specialized in portraiture and genre scenes.
The artist's son, Jules-Alexandre Duval Le Camus, followed in his fathers footsteps and became an artist of acclaim in his own right.
The current painting depicts a well dressed man sporting a yellow vest, portrayed as seated at his writing desk along with a well dressed boy, likely his son. The man and child are presented wearing fine, period attire, attesting to their status in society. The interior space with a mantle and fireplace, a needlepoint rug and paintings hung on the wall, one of which appears to present a portrait bust of Napoleon.
The painting is signed "Duval L.C." to the lower right.
The verso of the canvas with wording which reads "au Coq Honore a Paris. Chez Alph Girons"
The painting is presented in an elaborately crafted, carved and gilt finished frame
Condition: The painted canvas which appears to have been lined, displays numerous areas of craquelure with possible old slight restorations. There is wear to the frame as well, with chips and losses to corners and splits to the gilt finish. Overall the painting presents handsomely despite wear as a fabulous 19th century painting.
