About the Artist:
Paul Edward Harney Jr. was an American artist known for genre painting. He is also known for painting Abraham Lincoln and James Reeve Stuart. Harney studied at the National Academy of Design and the Acadmey of Fine Arts Munich. He worked as a professor at Shurtleff College and occupied a chair in the St. Louis School of Fine Arts. His works, often portraits, interiors, and depictions of rural living, particularly of chickens, utilize the earthy tones exemplary of the Munich School.
