Item Description

A collection of four hand-painted coats of arms for 19th century gentlemen. Two display with a blue mat, while two display with a red mat in gilt frames. The paintings are accompanied by penciled inscriptions, including:

Admiral Sir Dudley Rawson Stratford de Chair KCB KCMG MVO (30 August 1864-17 August 1958). A light blue, black, and gray chevron striped shield flanked by foliate flourishes around a knights helmet wearing a gilt crown, an armored arm emerging holding a laurel wreath against a brown-gray ground with the phrase "with truth and honour."

Major-General Sir Steuart Welwood Hare, KCMG, CB (September 1867-October 1952). Light blue and yellow stripes topped with a zig-zag border with three shell flourishes, flanked by a blue and yellow foliate garland above a pink ribbon, topped with a knight's helmet with a white lion holding a red cross against a brown-gray ground.

Sir Edgar Bonham-Carter KCMG CIE (2 April 1870-24 April 1956) A red and blue checkerboard on a shield with alternating cross and lion motifs, topped by two knight helmets with a lion and dragon head with red and white or blue and yellow foliate garlands above ap ink and green ribbon reading "trusty to the end" against a brown-gray ground.

Sir Alfred Edmund Bateman KCMG (31 August 1844-7 August 1929). A yellow shield adorned with three crescent and star motifs, topped with a knight's helmet wearing a winged hat with a matching moon motif leading to flourishing red and yellow foliate garlands above a pink-gray ribbon reading "sidus adsit amicum."

Condition: Displays well with minor discoloration, and light wear to frames.
