Item Description
Beautifully painted American Civil War era wood drum canteen, displaying a pair of cattle wading in a river flanked by lush autumnal foliage with rolling hills in the background under a blue and orange gradient sky. The back side is painted blue, with gilt handwriting reading "Shermans March to the Sea Co 48. 1864." The edges are painted gilt, finished with a gilt corn cob stopper.
Condition: Displays well with finish wear, discoloration, and a small spot of surface damage to the front lower left that does not significantly detract from appearance.
