About the Artist:
Ohara Koson was a Japanese artist known for painting and woodblock printing. He had a prolific career creating around 500 prints, a majority of which were kachō-e, or birds and flowers. He studied at the Ishikawa Prefecture Technical School and went on to work with a handful of publishers including Akiyama Buemon, Matsuki Heikichi, Watanabe Shōzaburō, and Kawaguchi. Koson's works are included in the collections of the Toledo Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the British Museum, the Harvard Art Museums, and many more.
