Bronze casting AFTER Frederic Remington, "Mountain Man".
The sculpture depicts Remington's famous "The Mountain Man" bronze which depicts a man on horseback moving down a heavily inclined landscape. The man is described as "equal parts trapper and explorer, the Rocky Mountain man played a central role in the North American fur trade, which reached its peak in the 1830s and 1840s."
Before the American cowboys, the mountain men assumed heroic stature for their bravery and hard nosed life style.
The original Remington "The Mountain Man" was first cast in 1907 at New York's Roman Bronze Works foundry using the lost-wax technique. An original can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This example is marked "Copyright by Frederic Remington" and features a dark patina and is mounted on a green marble base with brass plaque denoting the work's name and whom it is after.
