Monumental pair of Crown Naples Capodimonte porcelain ewers. The impressive pair features mythological moulded and polychrome finished decorative embellishment.
The ewers stand on square base with gilt finished scroll motif on white ground. The pedestals are potted four fish with their scaly tales wrapped and rising upwards to the fabulously detailed vessel. Bearing armorial crests with three fleur de lis' with mythical part man, part fish seen flanking the armorial crest. Embellished with shells and flora and fauna in polychrome colors, all in relief. The shoulders with imposing sea creature masks to the front with Poseiden forming the back of the mouth with his hands wrapped around the spout holding onto the sea creatures gilt horns.
Decorative polychrome finished handles.
Condition: One of the pair has a cracked base, with one of the sea creature masks has a chip and loss of finish which can be seen in the lot images. Overall there are cracks and splits, some of which can be seen in the lot images. The ewers are made in sections with metallic fittings to connect and sections of each are loose and could stand to be tightened to preserve. Although restoration is needed, it is certainly warranted as this pair presents astoundingly well.
