This fabulous reverse painting on glass by Milton Bond was painted in 1999. The work is titled "Whaleship 'Primrose' off Nantucket Island". Reverse painting on glass is an art form consisting of applying paint to a piece of glass and then viewing the image by turning the glass over and looking through the glass at the image.
Milton Bond's fabulous work takes on Folk Art, primitive style. The painting depicts a scene of the coast of Nantucket, complete with figures and buildings on shore and the fabulous three masted whaling ship "Primrose" sailing just off shore.
The scene has a well depicted barn style home complete with white picket fence and a tree growing nearby. The grass is green and a young girl, boy and adult in addition to a small dog can be seen trotting down the dirt path leading from the barn style home to shore. There are details like a rowboat and second sailboat in the choppy Atlantic ocean which has been marvelously depicted.
Signed, dated 1999 and titled on verso.
Presented framed in a burl veneered frame.

Condition: Good with light wear to the frame finish but overall the painting presents wonderfully.
