Michael Ricker (American, 1940-2006) was an accomplished Colorado based artist with a focus on sculpture. Ricker began creating pewter, collectible sculpture in 1968. Ricker's process involves use of Old English Pewter ingots which are melted down to cast limited edition sculptures and other works of art. By 1991, construction of a new museum, gallery and casting studio had been completed which further enhanced the collectabilty of his limited edition sculptural works of art.
Ricker passed away in 2006, and his brother and sister created the company known as Designs By Ricker where they continue to carry on production of his fabulous work.
The limited edition sculpture comes together with a Certificate of Authenticity, denoting the signature plate of the Ltd. Ed. sculpture is in fact that of legendary baseball player Willie Mays.
The work also comes with its official Certificate of Title denoting the works title and series - BASEBALL SIGNATURE SERIES / "WILLIE MAYS", hallmark number of casting No. 282, issue price $575., total castings limited to 610, date of casting 1996, appraised value $977.50, and date of appraisal - Mar. 1996.
The current work depicts Hall of Fame baseball player Wille Mays wearing his uniform in an action pose. Willie Mays is depicted bent at the waist, with his right leg extended out, and his left leg bent at the knee. His hands are down, one hand with his baseball mitt / glove down to catch or field the ground ball. His head is presented up and alert to both field the ball and what he'll do once he's gathered the ground ball.
There is a plaque denoting which is signed and has been placed just in front of his glove near the center / right of the sculpture. The sculpture is mounted on a brass mounted base which has a plaque that states: "THE LEGEND LIVES / 'WILLIE MAYS', the artists name and series number '282/610'.
