Michael Ricker (American, 1940-2006) was an accomplished Colorado based artist with a focus on sculpture. Ricker began creating pewter, collectible sculpture in 1968. Ricker's process involves use of Old English Pewter ingots which are melted down to cast limited edition sculptures and other works of art. By 1991, construction of a new museum, gallery and casting studio had been completed which further enhanced the collectabilty of his limited edition sculptural works of art.
Ricker passed away in 2006, and his brother and sister created the company known as Designs By Ricker where they continue to carry on production of his fabulous work.
The work comes with its official Certificate of Title denoting the works title and series - 1996 U.S. OLYMPIC COMMEMORATIVE / "TORCH BEARERS", hallmark number of casting No. 209, issue price $400., total castings limited to 500, date of casting 1996, appraised value $680., and date of appraisal JUNE, 1996.
The current work was made for the 100th Anniversary USA Olympics 1896-1996. The Summer Olympics had been played in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. The work depicts a man and woman running together holding the Olympic torch which has been marvelously cast as having a flame which has intricate detail lending life to the sculpture. The pewter sculpture has been mounted on a brass mounted base with a flame shaped glass plaque with pewter mounted oval denoting the 100th Anniversary celebration.
