Michael Ricker (American, 1940-2006) was an accomplished Colorado based artist with a focus on sculpture. Ricker began creating pewter, collectible sculpture in 1968. Ricker's process involves use of Old English Pewter ingots which are melted down to cast limited edition sculptures and other works of art. By 1991, construction of a new museum, gallery and casting studio had been completed which further enhanced the collectabilty of his limited edition sculptural works of art.
Ricker passed away in 2006, and his brother and sister created the company known as Designs By Ricker where they continue to carry on production of his fabulous work.
The limited edition sculpture comes together with its Certificate of Authenticity, denoting the signature plate of the Ltd. Ed. sculpture is in fact "an actual, true, and genuine signature of TONY GWYNN".
The work also comes with its official Certificate of Title denoting the works title and series - "TONY GWYNN", #1 BASEBALL ORIGINAL SIGNATURE, hallmark number of casting No. 126, issue price $495., total castings limited to 156, date of casting 1998, appraised value $841.50, and date of appraisal 1998.
The current work depicts the Hall of Fame player in an action pose. Presented after just hitting what appears to be a long ball with his hand having just tossed the bat to the ground and his head looking outward at where the ball is going. The signature plaque can be found at Gwynn's feet. The sculpture is mounted on a brass mounted base with a plaque which states: THE LEGEND LIVES / "TONY GWYNN", the artists name and series number '126/156'.
