Michael Ricker (American, 1940-2006) was an accomplished Colorado based artist with a focus on sculpture. Ricker began creating pewter, collectible sculpture in 1968. Ricker's process involves use of Old English Pewter ingots which are melted down to cast limited edition sculptures and other works of art. By 1991, construction of a new museum, gallery and casting studio had been completed which further enhanced the collectabilty of his limited edition sculptural works of art.
Ricker passed away in 2006, and his brother and sister created the company known as Designs By Ricker where they continue to carry on production of his fabulous work.
The limited edition sculpture comes together with a document card from Latitude Sports Marketing stating "This document certifies the authenticity of the accompanying item. Latitude Sports Marketing guarantees that the item you purchased is personally signed by the following athlete. CAL RIPKEN JR. / BASEBALL"
The work also comes with its official Certificate of Title denoting the works title and series - Limited Editions / Cal Ripken JR., hallmark number of casting No. 31, issue price $595., total castings limited to (blank), date of casting 2006, appraised value $1011.50, and date of appraisal - 28-Sep-06.
The sculpture is signed and dated 2006, with the edition number '31/75' to the base of the sculpture.
The current work depicts Hall of Fame baseball player Cal Ripken Jr. in an action pose. He is on his right knee with left leg extended having fielded a ball with his left arm bent at the elbow and his glove in tight, with his right arm back and up, with the ball in his hand ready to throw. The sculpture comes together with a baseball marked "Cal Ripken Jr." with an image of the player in his Orioles jersey and the dates 1981-2001, the ball is signed by Ripken Jr. underneath the logo.
The sculpture and ball are mounted on a brass mounted base with a plaque affixed stating: the players name Cal Ripken Jr. and a list of career highlights and achievements.
