Item Description
Michael Ricker (American, 1940-2006) was an accomplished Colorado based artist with a focus on sculpture. Ricker began creating pewter, collectible sculpture in 1968. Ricker's process involves use of Old English Pewter ingots which are melted down to cast limited edition sculptures and other works of art. By 1991, construction of a new museum, gallery and casting studio had been completed which further enhanced the collectabilty of his limited edition sculptural works of art.
Ricker passed away in 2006, and his brother and sister created the company known as Designs By Ricker where they continue to carry on production of his fabulous work.
The work comes with its official Certificate of Title denoting the works title and series - MANTLE COLLECTION / FREE SPIRIT, hallmark number of casting No. 77, issue price $2750., total castings limited to 100, date of casting 1999, appraised value $4675.00, and date of appraisal 11-Feb-00.
The fabulous sculpture depicts a herd of wild horses running together with 3 adult horses, a juvenile horse along with two younger ponies. The horses are marvelously cast and the sculpture displays incredible conveyed movement, its as if the viewer is transported to the open landscape where the familial herd is racing along with the wind blowing their manes and tails back into the wind.
The sculpture is mounted on a well carved and finished base. A plaque to the base reads "FREE SPIRITS", with the artists name and edition number '77/100'.
The work is also signed to the base and dated 1999.
