Item Description
This mid-century sculpture entitled "Torso Relief" is a fluid combination of abstraction and realism. The classically rendered front torso and rear end of a female emerge from foliage made up of raw thumb impressions. The work is signed “Glasson 65."

The sculptor, Lloyd Glasson (b. 1931) is perhaps best known for his re-creation of the two angels that adorn the top of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Bushnell Park, Hartford, Connecticut. He has executed many public portrait commissions including for Yale University and the University of Connecticut. Glasson has won many accolades for his art including two gold medals, one in 1986 from the National Academy of Design, and another from the National Sculpture Society in 1985. He is Professor Emeritus of Sculpture and Drawing at the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford.
