Commodore Lewis Warrington (American, 1782-1851) signed plan for Memphis, TN Navy Yard, circa 1844. Depicting an architectural plan for the Memphis Tennessee naval yard with an explanation key along the side. Approved, dated and signed in ink by Warrington in lower right corner. Behind glass in a contemporary metal frame.
Warrington was an US officer during the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812. He rose to Captain then to commodore and was temporarily the Secretary of the Navy in 1844 then shortly after became the Chief of the Bureau of the Ordnance until his death in 1851. Warrington was a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal for his service during the War of 1812.
Condition: With expected signs of wear including areas of toning and foxing, creasing and minor splits along creases. Scratches to frame.
