Leo Quanchi is is best known for his Modernist style landscapes and figural images.
The current example being a fabulous Cubist style figural portrait. Echoing stained glass leaded windows, the artist has painted fields of color bordered by other colors. There is a distinct head with eyes and nose and a somewhat abstracted figure holding a Chinese style lantern.
Whitney Museum label on verso denotes the painting as having been apart of the Whitney Museum of American Art's 1949 Annual Exhibition of Contemporary American Paintings.
The tag lists the artist, title, owner and it's insurance valuation being $250. at the time (1949)

Condition: Light wear to painted finish around trim, the painting could stand to be tightened on its stretcher but not necessary. Light wear to the frame but overall in good form and presents fabulously.
