Late 18th-Early 19th Century substantial oil on canvas depicting a high ranking British soldier dressed in uniform depicted along a vertical composition from three quarter view with his gaze directly at the viewer while his left arm supports his sword drawing attention to his gold buttons and epaulettes. The stark red uniform stands out against the neutral background providing for an elegant but subtle display. Marked el verso from the supplier of canvas in England, Roberson & Miller. Marked with the stenciled address from 51 LONG ACRE. LONDON. Presented within a heavily carved & gilt frame that is wired.
Condition: With expected signs of age and wear including light surface marks, craquelure, and minor cut shown in photo 5 but does not detract from the overall appearance. Minor marks and chips to frame but hardly noticeable. Past repair patches as noticed from el verso. It also requires reinforcement as some of the nails have detached from frame as shown in photography. Please review.
