Painted by artist South Korean artist L. Stephano whom was born October 4, 1948 in Incheon, Gyeonggi Province, in South Korea. His Impressionistic style and technique developed from a young age when he set out to master the oil on canvas medium. French Impressionism can be seen as an obvious inspiration and he in fact studied imagery of Southern France and Great Britain where he created imagery from memory more than the actual source. He moved on to work in his own studio and study works from masters including Jean-Baptiste-Camille-Corot as well as Gustave Courbet.
This current painting depicts a countryside wilderness with two cows depicted in the midground strolling through a low bog or body of water with two women in maids clothing seen strolling along a dirt path next to the body of water where the cows are seen wandering. One of the cows appears to have spotted the two humans and has perked its head up.
The painting is presented in a wonderfully carved and decorated wood and gesso gilt frame with four wonderfully carved elements seen in high relief.
23.5"H x 35.5"W - sight
35.25"H x 47"W - framed
Condition: There is a clear, plastic protective cover which has been stapled to the wood stretcher which the canvas is also affixed to. This clear protective layer could easily be removed if so desired or left to preserve the painting. The frame has lost some of the gilt paint in the four carved high relief corners which is why they appear more grey, the color of the substrate underneath the gilding. There are also spotting which may be intended and minor splits to the gilding of the frame. The canvas is good with small areas of impasto, built up paint, which is slightly discolored but likely an effect of dust and age. Overall the canvas is in good form and presents marvelously.
