Item Description
Josef Israels (Dutch, 1824-1911) was a member of a the landscape artists whom referred to themselves as the Hague School.
The painting depicts a wall facade with doorwell. A woman wearing a brimmed hat opens a half door to let a small kitten inside. There are pops of color including the kitten and foliage above the doorwell which present well.
With an affixed written label on verso denoting the works title, medium, artist and some purported provenance.
Stating the works provenance as being "From the Collection of Arthur Jackson Manchester, 1928"
Presented matted and framed and glazed with glass.
Provenance: purchased from Stern (Art Dealers) Co. of London in 1984 for $2,600.
Sight: 11 1/4"h x 7 3/4"w
Frame: 19 1/8"h x 15 3/8"w
Condition: Some wear to the mat consistent with age but overall presents well.
