John C. Henry (American [SC], 1925-2020) watercolor painting on paper depicting a woman with brown hair tied with a teal ribbon wearing a long-sleeved green gown and pointed heels sitting on a bench against a vibrant vertically streaked red, pink, green, and purple background. Signed lower right and lower left. Presented loose, unframed.
About the Artist:
John C. Henry was an American artist born in South Carolina. As a teenager he received a scholarship to study commercial art, but a year into the program was drafted to the army and served as a drill sergeant during WWII. After the war, he went on to work as an illustrator and created catalogues for companies such as John Deere and Whirlpool. Throughout his life he was also a pianist and puppeteer. After retiring from commercial work, Henry focused on painting portraits and seascapes.
Condition
A torn loss at the lower left corner, but presents well otherwise.
