Item Description
This work is a maximalist, found-object assemblage constructed over the intact chassis of a vintage analog desk telephone. The artist has systematically encrusted the original plastic housing and handset with a dense, textured layer of decorative media.
The shell (Body) with the top and sides of the telephone base completely covered in an organic mosaic arrangement. Prominent features include polished marine seashells—specifically cowrie shells and small bivalves—interspersed with metallic charms, costume jewelry, novelty buttons, glass fragments, and plastic beads.
The square, numeric push-buttons remain exposed but are tightly framed by a border of metallic-painted filigree and micro-beads, transforming the functional dialing interface into a decorative focal point.
The earpiece and mouthpiece are accented with concentric rings of crimson seed beads. The underside of the handle features a hand-painted geometric design of wavy green, red, and gold lines on a dark background, contrasting the textured mosaic of the upper shell. A standard coiled vinyl cord connects the handset to the base.
